A: Most interviews last 1-2 hours, but of course it depends on how much you enjoy speaking to us!
A: Your interview [transcript and audio] is accessible to everyone that visits the VT Stories website or the VT Special Collections website.
A: Your full audio and transcript are housed by VT Special Collections. The link to these are provided underneath your article on the VT Stories website. They will also be searchable through VT Special Collections.
A: Contact a member of our team and we will work with you to ensure you are pleased with your interview.

Yes! Virginia Tech Special Collections is located in Newman Library and is committed to collecting rare and unique materials such as letters, documents, scarce printed items, and diaries for anyone to use. The collections are strongest in the areas of University history, the Civil War, the history of food and drink, women architects, Appalachian history, and science and technology. Our Process

  • Step 1:

    Your information is received from the Alumni Association or other contact

  • Step 2:

    You will be contacted by a member of our team

  • Step 3:

    Interview is scheduled based on your availability

  • Step 4:

    Once interview is complete, the audio is sent to the transcription service

  • Step 5:

    Transcript is received by our team and checked for spelling and grammatical errors

  • Step 6:

    Transcript sent to interviewee for checking (editing, deletions, etc) and image request for website

  • Step 7:

    Transcript reviewed by our team for interesting, relevant, time worthy stories

  • Step 8:

    Article written and sound clip edited

  • Step 9:

    Article, sound clip, and images are uploaded to website. Also, full audio and transcript is deposited into Special Collections in Newman Library

  • Step 10:

    Your VT Story is complete and ready to be viewed and listened to
